Eggs & the Gacha System

The Egg Gacha is a persistent system for collecting rare Pokémon — completely separate from wild encounters. Some species can only be obtained through eggs, making the gacha essential for a complete Pokédex.

Egg Vouchers

Eggs are obtained by spending Egg Vouchers at the Egg Gacha (Menu → Egg Gacha, or the EGGS command during battle). There are four voucher tiers, each enabling different pull options:

Voucher Pull Option Guarantee
Egg Voucher (Regular) ×1 pull — or ×10 for 10 vouchers ×10 guarantees at least 1 Rare egg
Egg Voucher Plus ×5 pulls
Egg Voucher Premium ×10 pulls Guarantees at least 1 Rare egg
Egg Voucher Gold ×25 pulls Guarantees at least 1 Epic egg

Vouchers appear as item rewards during runs (Voucher Plus from Ultra tier, Voucher Premium from Rogue tier, Voucher Gold from Master tier).

Egg Tiers & Hatch Waves

Every egg belongs to one of four tiers, which determines how long it takes to hatch and what species can emerge. Rarer tiers produce more powerful Pokémon.

Tier (in-game name) Hatch Waves Pokémon Pool
Common 10 waves Starter value 1–3
Rare 25 waves Starter value 4–5
Epic 50 waves Starter value 6–7
Legendary 100 waves Starter value 8–9
Manaphy egg 50 waves Phione (7/8) or Manaphy (1/8)

Hatched Pokémon are added to your starter pool, not your current party. Their IVs are determined by taking the best of two independent IV rolls, so egg Pokémon consistently have superior IVs versus wild catches.

The Three Machines

All three machines share the same base tier odds and pull costs, but each boosts a specific outcome. Pick the machine that matches your current goal.

Legendary Up

The Legendary Up machine features a rotating daily Legendary Pokémon. Every day a different Legendary cycles in as the day's featured Pokémon — check the Gacha Calendar to see today's.

Tier odds (Legendary Up):

Tier Odds
Legendary 0.78% (2 in 256)
Epic 2.73% (7 in 256)
Rare 17.19% (44 in 256)
Common 79.30% (203 in 256)

Compared to the other two machines, Legendary Up has a doubled base Legendary rate (0.78% vs 0.39%). It also advances the Legendary pity counter by 2 per pull instead of 1, effectively halving the pulls needed to trigger pity.

When a Legendary egg hatches from this machine, there is a hard 50% chance to lock in the day's featured Legendary before the pool is even rolled. If that check fails, the featured Legendary is still in the normal weighted pool — so the true probability of getting it is slightly above 50% (~52% given the ~23-species pool).

Best for: Targeting a specific Legendary Pokémon, or farming Legendary-tier eggs in general.

Egg Move Up

The Egg Move Up machine doubles the chance of hatching an egg with a Rare Egg Move unlocked.

Tier odds: Identical to base (0.39% / 2.73% / 17.19% / 79.69%) — this machine does not affect tier rolls.

Egg Move odds — how it works

When an egg hatches, it rolls one of four egg move slots: indices 0–2 are common moves, index 3 is the rare move. The probability of landing on the rare move scales up with egg tier and is doubled by this machine:

Egg Tier Default rate Egg Move Up rate
Common 1 in 48 (2.08%) 1 in 24 (4.17%)
Rare 1 in 24 (4.17%) 1 in 12 (8.33%)
Epic 1 in 12 (8.33%) 1 in 6 (16.67%)
Legendary 1 in 6 (16.67%) 1 in 3 (33.33%)

Higher-tier eggs benefit most — a Legendary egg from this machine has a 1-in-3 shot at the rare move.

How egg moves unlock

When an egg hatches, if the rolled move is one the species hasn't had unlocked yet, it permanently unlocks that egg move for every future starter of that species. The rare move (index 3) is typically the strongest egg move a species can learn, so it's the most valuable unlock.

Best for: Farming rare egg move unlocks, especially on high-tier species.

Shiny Up

The Shiny Up machine doubles the base shiny rate.

Tier odds: Identical to base (0.39% / 2.73% / 17.19% / 79.69%) — this machine does not affect tier rolls.

Shiny rates by source

Source Shiny rate
Default gacha (Legendary Up / Egg Move Up) 1 in 128 (0.78%)
Shiny Up machine 1 in 64 (1.56%)
Same-species egg 1 in 24 (4.17%)

Shiny variant odds

If an egg is shiny, it rolls a second time for a variant tier:

Variant Chance (if shiny)
Common variant 60%
Rare variant 30%
Epic variant (full alternate palette) 10%

Pokémon without variant data are always treated as Common variant regardless of this roll.

Best for: Hunting shiny Pokémon from the gacha. For the absolute highest shiny rate, same-species eggs (4.17%) beat this machine, but Shiny Up is the best option for species you can't breed.

Pity System

The gacha tracks pull counts across all machines on your account. When a pity threshold is hit, the next Common egg that would be generated is automatically upgraded. All three counters run simultaneously — the highest eligible tier triggers first and resets that counter to 0.

Pity tier Triggers after Legendary Up effective threshold
Rare 9 pulls without Rare+ 9 pulls
Epic 59 pulls without Epic+ 59 pulls
Legendary 412 pulls without Legendary+ 206 pulls (counts +2/pull)

Hidden Ability Rates

Hidden Abilities can hatch from gacha eggs, but the rate is low from the machines. Same-species eggs are far better for HA farming:

Source HA rate
Any gacha machine 1 in 192 (0.52%)
Same-species egg 1 in 8 (12.5%)

Egg Swap

After any egg hatches you can optionally swap the new Pokémon into your current party:

  • Your first (lead) Pokémon cannot be swapped out
  • Legendaries can only replace another Legendary, a Mega-capable, or a Dynamax-capable Pokémon
  • Use this to upgrade your team mid-run with a powerful freshly-hatched Pokémon

Unlock Pity (Species Pool)

The species pool for each tier only includes Pokémon you've never caught and don't already have in an egg. If you've rolled the same tier 9 consecutive times without getting an uncaught species, the pool forcibly narrows to only uncaught species — guaranteeing something new on the 10th roll. This counter resets whenever you do hatch a new species.

Access During Battle

In V2, the Egg Gacha is accessible mid-battle via the EGGS command — no need to wait until the next title screen visit. This lets you hatch eggs and potentially swap in a just-hatched Pokémon immediately.
